Tonight Preps

Our crew is getting set up inside the DC Convention Center for the Bidens Home State Ball: Delaware and Pennsylvania. The room is enormous. And empty. But hundreds in the cue outside, about to start filing inside and out of the cold.
Maroon 5 is the scheduled entertainment. But there are rumors. Rumors of big name, musical surprises.

Entertainment beat

We’re in the middle of all the excitement here in Washington, DC and as soon as we arrived it’s clear everyone else is too! The streets are lined with security and people wanting to be part of President Obama’s Inauguration.

So now that it’s time on Inauguration day for the official and unofficial balls… Hollywood comes to town (as does your entertainment team)!

Right now entertainment correspondent Jill Dobson and I are getting ready to cover the Creative Coalition’s Inaugural Ball and wait for stars like Anne Hathaway, Ron Howard, Spike Lee, and many more to join the party. Sting has been announced to perform too and it’s one hot ticket – ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 so we’re hoping to get a look inside to see what the set up is!

I can tell you about the set up on the red carpet – it’s underway and I’m going to get back out there and make sure we’re all ready to go for Fox News Channel’s special coverage…

Will keep all of you blog-readers posted on what the stars are doing, saying, and -- wearing tonight! (it is a Hollywood star-studded event after all)

A significant Blackberry transmission issue during todays proceedings. Many colleagues experiencing similar problems.

Parade route color

They just cranked up the speakers on the parade route and they're blasting U22 down Pennsylvania ave.  Most people are just shivering together along the street but some of the volunteers have decided the best way to keep warm is to dance!

People are still filing through the security checkpoints but once they hit about 350,000, they're closing the gates.

Disappointed crowds

Security gate closed at 1st & C st. Huge crowd chanting "We've got tickets!  Let us in!"  People in tears waited up to 4 hrs with tickets, denied entrance. Many leaving the area very disappointed.

Update

Reached scene inside gallery place Chinatown metro station. No fatality. Metro police confirm 68 year old woman hit by train and transported for treatment with minor injuries.  No word on if she fell or was pushed but was apparently on the tracks. Resuming service on the red line soon. Mob scene outside the station. Lots of folks still trying to reach the mall. And it's bitter cold out.

Speech color

Barack Obama’s speech was blasted over loudspeakers along the parade route.  The crowd stood in contemplative silence punctuated by the occasional cheer.

Moments after Mr. Obama finished, they started up the music over those loudspeakers and about a hundred people busted out the electric slide... Waiting to watch as their new president will pass them in the parade on his way to the white house.
